Babà is a mushroom shaped dessert that originated from Poland and France but perfected in Naples. There was a story that the former king of Poland in the 1800's accidentally spilled rum on his pastry and when he tried it he loved it.
It is a small brioche cake with rum-spiked syrup all around, it can also have them cream filled or with whipped cream and fruit on top.
This dessert is often found on special wedding tables or pastry shops but aren't always found spiked.
I rate this delicious dessert, by appearance, 4/5 meatballs. I haven't tried this but I've tried a non-spiked version before, I can give the non-spiked version a 3.5/5 meatballs. It's often really sweet.
The first picture is spiked and the second one is not.
